Handmade Shaker Kitchen
Our latest photo shoot showcases a recently installed shaker kitchen in Suffolk with a truly bespoke design which involved removing a wall and complete re flooring. Our client was looking for a shaker style kitchen with a handpainted finish and quartzstone surfaces.
The house was built over 200 years ago and has been extended over the years from all directions.
Our customers felt that the original kitchen was dark with a wooden floor and a central island unit but it was badly laid out and it was a squash to get passed each other and not a practical space.
The couple work from home so needed areas to work and sit comfortably. They both love cooking so wanted to create a practical and social environment for family dining and entertaining guests.
We removed the wall in the middle of the room, opening up the space and allowing natural light from the angled roof windows into the kitchen area. Supporting walls either side remain but we used the opening as a space for breakfast bar / seating area looking into the kitchen. The oven and mantel is a main focal point with large prep area to left and sink to the right. We included a fridge freezer, integrated dishwasher, built in microwave, corner larder, and dresser unit.
We incorporated 2 working areas, a knee hole for low level working and a higher desk area so that the clients can work separately or side by side.
The worktops were mainly quartz for practicality with a blend of Oak on the desk, breakfast bar and dresser with coordinating chopping board and cutlery tray. The client chose handmade clays as a feature backsplash.
The entire kitchen was manufactured in our workshop and the shaker kitchen doors are painted by hand after installation.
The finished design opens up the space beautifully, allowing more natural light into the room and creating a social kitchen space which is practical and well laid out.
Here’s what our customers had to say:
“We are extremely pleased with our new kitchen. The new design works so well, the wall has been removed to open the seating area and is perfect for cooking, dining, entertaining and working. We both love cooking and it’s lovely now because it’s a social space and people can sit at the breakfast bar and chat, we’ve already had friends over and really enjoyed using the space.
What we really liked about working with Andrew was the open discussions that we had about the design. He was not afraid to give us his honest advice and we really valued his opinion. He took the time to understand what we were trying to achieve. We had complete confidence that Andrew would deliver what he said he would and we are delighted with the end result.
If I could sum it up in one word it would be trust, we had total trust in Andrew and everyone that works for him, they’re great guys and the work is of an excellent standard. Since we are so happy with our finished kitchen we have asked Debenvale to continue with our next phase, which is our bathrooms and these are set to start next year.
We would highly recommend Debenvale and have already have done so around the village.”
